A hydrocarbon biomarker record for the last 40 kyr of plant input to Lake Heqing, southwestern China

چکیده
Multi proxy records relating to climate and vegetation have been obtained for a core spanning the last 40 kyr from the Heqing Lake Basin (26 N, 100 E; 2200 m asl.), Yunnan Province of southwestern China. Compound-specific carbon isotope records for the vascular plant leaf wax hydrocarbons, the C23–C33 n-alkanes, and for the algal hydrocarbons, the C23 and C25 n-alkenes and a C30 cyclobotryococcatriene, all show a shift of circa +3% in d C values from MIS 3 to the end of MIS 2, followed by a rapid return to lighter values. This shift (from 32 to 29%) for the n-alkanes and n-alkenes most likely derives from bicarbonate utilization by aquatic plants in the lake, rather than increased C4 photosynthesis. Thus, both pollen data and hydrocarbon data appear to reveal a rise and fall in the contributions of submerged and/or floating plants during MIS 2. # 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Macrofossils in Raraku Lake (Easter Island) integrated with sedimentary and geochemical records: towards a palaeoecological synthesis for the last 34,000 years
Macrofossil analysis of a composite 19 m long sediment core from Rano Raraku Lake (Easter Island) was related to litho-sedimentary and geochemical features of the sediment. Strong stratigraphical patterns are shown by indirect gradient analyses of the data. The good correspondence between the stratigraphical patterns derived from macrofossil (Correspondence Analysis) and sedimentary and geochem...

A 22m long sediment core from Lake Yamozero on the Timan Ridge in northern Russia has provided evidence of intriguing climatic shifts during the last glacial cycle. An overall shallowing of the lake is reflected in the lower part of the cores, where pollen indicates a transition from glacial steppe vegetation to interstadial shrub-tundra. These beds are capped by a well-defined layer of compact...

Introduction: In order to recognize the mechanism of local climatic settings and to be able to establish the future climatic scenarios is essential to understand the past climatic and environmental conditions of the each area. This is also important to explore the response of local areas to the global climatic variations. The palaeoclimate researches carried out in Iran mainly considered the g...
